Braces

We offer braces for misaligned teeth. These can be in the form of metal or clear material like porcelain. For teenagers treatment is usually completed in less than 18 months.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

The last tooth to erupt is the third molar or wisdom tooth. This usually occurs during late teens or early 20's. Often because of a lack of space they get jammed and unable to erupt fully. Germs often collect in that area causing gum infection or even caries. We normally advise extraction if frequent episodes of infection crop up.

Root Canal Therapy

When a tooth is extensively decayed or traumatised the nerve may not survive the stress and becomes inflamed, causing pain. Root canal therapy is the mechanical and chemical cleaning of the nerve canal to effect a germ free environment. In this way the tooth need not be extracted as it is no longer infected.

Children Dentistry

The importance of good oral hygiene in children especially between the ages of 3 to 10 cannot be overemphasized. Very often, due to neglect or ignorance, parents allow heavy consumption of sweets and fail to monitor the brushing of teeth. As a consequence, rampant caries occur and often result in painful episodes. Faced with such situations, dentist often have to resort to more aggressive treatment modalities like extraction or root canal therapy. Often things may not go according to plan and the children are unavoidably traumatized. This is the root cause of dental fear in their adult life. Parents are encouraged to bring their children for regular check ups. Preventive measures like diet counselling, fluoride treatment and placement of sealants can be implemented. If caries are detected they are usually at an early stage and can be filled painlessly.

Dentures

Dentures, either full or partial, are inexpensive quick replacement for missing teeth. Sometimes they are fabricated as a temporary measure after extraction to allow time for the gum and the underlying bone to heal fully before other forms of fixed prosthesis can be started.

Implants

Implants are often regarded as the best form of prosthesis to replace missing teeth. However proper evaluation of the existing supporting bone quality and quantity is crucial for success. This may involve the use of CT scan and computer guided implant placement.

Bridges

These are multiple units of crowns to restore missing teeth using existing teeth as anchorage. These are fixed and is therefore more comfortable in use than a removable denture. There are special tooth brushes and techniques to keep the area under the bridges clean to maintain good oral hygiene.

Crowns

Crowns are used to restore teeth that are root canal treated, cracked or in imminent danger of cracking. Porcelain either alone or in combination with a metal framework is the material of choice as it gives a natural appearance and colour.

Inlay/Onlay

When a tooth is severely decayed and unable to support a normal filling, inlays are often indicated as a cheaper alternative to crowns. These fillings ,either metal or porcelain, are usually fabricated in the laboratory and would require more than one visit.

Filling

Our practice uses tooth coloured filling material like composites and glass ionomer. Amalgam with its mercury content is no longer dispensed in our practice.

Veneers

These are actually thin shells of either resin or porcelain that is glued onto the tooth surface to camouflage unsightly heavily filled teeth, close gaps between teeth and even mildly change teeth position.. Proper care is important to maintain its cosmetic benefit.

Bonding

This is an inexpensive way to enhance the smile. Old discoloured fillings can be easily replaced. Abnormally narrow teeth can be widened to mimic natural ones. Gaps between teeth can be closed quickly and often bring about a drastic improvement in the smile.

Teeth Whitening

This is a popular procedure for those who wish to brighten their teeth. It can be done either in the home or at the dental office.

Cleaning

Cleaning is necessary not only for cosmetic reasons but more importantly for good foundation of the teeth. When clinical evidence of gum disease is present, a comprehensive gum treatment plan which include oral hygiene instruction and diet counselling is prescribed.

Diagnosis

For a successful treatment outcome it is important to diagnose what is the actual problem. Combined with clinical evaluation we also employ the use of diagnostic tools such as radiographs(XRay). For caries detection we use the Diagnodent , a laser device that actually measures the extent of dental decay.
